The Magic Bullet by Noah Walton

When noted University of Chicago professor Bruce Zhao vanishes without warning, scientist Michael Decker and private investigator Jessica Passero form an unlikely alliance to track down the missing man. As the pair piece together a picture of events, it increasingly appears as though Zhao’s sudden disappearance may have been orchestrated – and part of a larger plan. Suspicions are confirmed when Zhao resurfaces, now claiming to have in hand a new technology that may represent the greatest medical advance of our time. But before he can deliver on his promises Zhao is found dead in his laboratory, an apparent victim of a disease he sought to cure. When Decker and Jessica uncover evidence that the professor’s untimely demise wasn’t an accident, it becomes clear that someone is willing to kill to thwart a major scientific breakthrough. With few clues to go on, the pair must unravel the web of lies and deceit surrounding Zhao’s death and the disease he sought to solve.

Set on the cutting edge of medical research, The Magic Bullet is a modern-day whodunit that blurs the line between mystery and science fiction.
